Newspaper: Tabloids and Quality Press
In Großbritannien haben regionale Zeitungen nur eine geringe Bedeutung. Nationale Zeitungen, die entweder an Wochentagen oder an Sonntagen erscheinen, bestimmen den Markt. Dabei wird zwischen quality papers/broadsheets und popular papers/tabloids unterschieden:
Quality Papers:
Inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt dieser teureren und in größerem Format erscheinenden Zeitungen sind Politik und Wirtschaft, sowie andere wichtige nationale und internationale Nachrichten.
Die seriöse Berichterstattung spricht vor allem Leser mit höherem Bildungsstand an.
Beispiele: Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Times, Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, Observer
Tabloids
Die Inhalte dieser etwa halb so großen Zeitungen sind auf das Interesse der Leser ausgerichtet: Aufsehenerregendes aus der Welt der Stars, Katastrophen, Skandale, Sex und Verbrechen.
Die bunte Aufmachung mit reichlich Fotos, reißerischen Schlagzeilen sowie die einfachere Sprache ist auf ein breites Publikum ausgerichtet.
